METRO LEAGUE DIVISION 1 – OLD WESLEY 41 CLONTARF 17
Monday night lights returned to Donnybrook with a bang for the first time this season when a great display of hard running rugby was served up by both sides in Metro League Division 1, much to the delight of the spectators present.
The first half was a fierce contest between two very physical packs as each went full on to take control of the game and at half time, Wesley held a slender 13 -10 lead, thanks to the kicking skills of Jack Maybury and a well worked try by Conor Barry.
The second half proved to be equally exciting as both sides increased the tempo of the game and fought for territory.
Halfway through the half the game turned in Old Wesley’s favour when a Clontarf player was yellow carded for a punch on prop David Henshaw. Wesley took full advantage and among the tries scored were ones from Arron McDonnell, Cillian Monahan and Mark Robinson, all converted by Maybury, and this saw Wesley home with a bonus point victory. However Clontarf fought hard right to the final whistle and proved to be very worthy losers on the night and were denied several scoring opportunities by the excellent Wesley defence.
