Metro League Division 3. Old Wesley 86 Navan 7
(9th Oct) On an unseasonably sunny October Sunday afternoon Old Wesley thirds welcomed an unknown midlands entity to Donnybrook. On first impressions Navan seconds looked bulky and oppressive, fortunately for Wesley following five minutes of rugby the positive first impression was a distant memory. Wesley scored a well worked try in the first phase of the game and followed up with two more tries in the second and third phase… it didn’t end there. Navan showed courage late in the first have and scored a converted try, however, that wasn’t enough to restrain Wesley running home 86 – 7 winners. Wesley showed clinical speed and finishing out wide, and skilful distribution at half back and midfield. Nearly every time the ball went outside 10 a try scoring break occurred. There were standout performances from a vast number of players in the squad, pretty much everyone ran home a try, with the obvious exception of the front row of course.
The resounding victory puts the newly promoted Wesley three out of three and top of the table, however, the thirds are well aware that stronger challenges lie ahead.
