Metro League Division 4 – Old Wesley 73 St. Mary’s 7
In Metro League 4 last Friday night, the 3rds ran riot against a disappointing St. Mary’s side notching up a 73-7 win. Played in cold but dry conditions, Old Wesley led 19-0 at half time before putting in a good old fashioned display of Barbarians rugby in the second half. Wesley crossed for a total of 11 tries by Craig Petrie, Ken McLaughlin, Ian Masterson (3), Neil Stanley, Andy West, Tommy Emo, Dan Hall, Simon Goldsmith and Luke Correll. Wesley had the upper hand in almost every area of play. Masterson, who displayed some excellent finishing and also kicked all the points in his last game before departing for the USA, recorded a personal tally of 28 points on the night. We wish him well on his travels and hope to see him back in Wesley colours before too long. Craig Petrie’s support play was top notch, while it was also good to see club stalwarts David Swaine and Neil Stanley put in a good shift.
The 3rds now lie joint second in their league with 4 wins from 6, which includes 5 bonus points, and some good results in their last three games before the Christmas break should see them in a strong position to challenge for a top 2 place in their league.
