5ths Reach O’Connor Cup Semi-Final

O’Connor Cup Round 2 – Old Wesley 33 Seapoint 22

Old Wesley 5ths beat a very experienced Seapoint team that never gave up, in the 2nd round of the cup.  Now we face AIB RFC,  Division 9 league winners, next Saturday.

Seapoint pack started the game on fire putting a huge amount of pressure on us, but thanks to a lighter and very fast back row of Ben, Caolon and Zak our game plan started to kick in, (run them around the park).  Seapoint got the first score with an easy run in under the posts but playing into a strong breeze we started to settle in with tries from Stephen Kean, Adam Vines, and Cameron Woods.  Seapoint kept in touch with another try and a penalty.  The changing point in the game was the old man of the Wesley team, Sir Graham Richmond, who played the whole game at scrum half, with a perfectly timed interception on the halfway line to finish under the posts.  We then scored another try through Ben with some great straight running. There were a lot of stand-out players on the day which is going to make selection very hard next week.  We have also put a life ban on Gresh for place-kicking . Many thanks for the great support.
