On Saturday, our Mini Girls joined Seapoint in welcoming the Ireland Women’s team onto the field. Old Wesley took another major step in the development of youth girls rugby within the club with girls taking to the field in both the Under 14 and Under 16 age groups for the first time.
Then on Monday, Sasha Williams represented the Metro in the Leinster Sarah Robinson Cup, helping her side to an impressive 45–25 win.
This week, another milestone was reached for the club as Sasha took to the field as our first Metro Girls representative.
After joining at the start of last year Sasha has gone from strength to strength in developing her all round skills, and awareness of playing full back for the De La Marys combined squad. More recently she had been given the captains armband demonstrating great leadership and communication skills both on and off the pitch. She is also a strong player for Wesley College where she is hoping that their Senior Girls team can create sole waves this season.
This season she is also completing her GAISCE with the club by helping to coach the Under 8s and Under 10s on a Sunday at Ballycorus.
On Monday evening she travelled with the rest of the Metro squad to take part in a warm up match which Metro were victorious.
We can’t wait to see what she does next.
Our Under 14s have amalgamated with Seapoint this season and created OldPoint. They train twice a week, Tuesdays at Seapoint and Wednesdays at Ballycorus.
Our Under 16s continue the amalgamation with St Marys and DLSP, De La Marys, they also train twice a week, Tuesdays at St Marys and Wednesdays at DLSP.
Last weekend saw the start of this seasons Metro League, with both teams unfortunately on the wrong end of the results, however with more to come this weekend, the club is certainly going in the right direction. With between 25 and 30 girls representing the club this weekend, we cant wait to see how they get on.
