We have learned of the passing of Arthur Slye.
Arthur played for old Wesley in 60s, 70s and 80s, himself and the late Derek McCullagh started the Marrieds vs Singles matches that used to gather the Old Wesley family together on St. Stephen’s Day to work off the Christmas dinner and partake of a few post match refreshments!
He was an active supporter after he finished playing, joining many of the bus trips for the away AIL matches in the 90s and 00s – until his health prevented him.
Although never to reach senior level they became a formidable half back partnership at junior level both on and off the field with their easygoing nature, quick wit and competitive nature. During the summer Arthur was a keen sailor as a member of Malahide Yacht Club racing Enterprise class witn Noel Gorman and Cruising Offshore on larger Yachts.
Arthur continued to support Old Wesley at matches, Pre match lunches and with Miriam were regular attendees at the celebrated candlelight dinners hosted by Iaan & Cecily Pratt over the years.
To his loving wife Miriam, children Cathy,Tara & Naomi , grandchildren & not forgetting son Arthur junior who sadly predeceased him some years ago following a tragic accident in Italy where he was living at the time.
