Old Wesley RFC is delighted to announce that our Vision Impaired Rugby (VIR) programme has received significant support from the Barbarians Rugby Charitable Trust, helping to further the development of Vision Impaired Rugby in Ireland and support the team’s upcoming international tour to Japan.
The support will assist the squad as they prepare for and participate in a tour of Japan from 30 October to 11 November 2026. It will help fund training camps, travel, accommodation, playing kit and other essential tour costs, reducing financial barriers and ensuring players can focus on representing their club and Irish Vision Impaired Rugby with pride on the international stage.
The Japan tour marks another important milestone in the growth of Vision Impaired Rugby in Ireland. The programme continues to create opportunities for people with a vision impairment to experience the enjoyment, camaraderie and competitive spirit of rugby, while also helping to raise awareness of the sport and broaden participation across the country.
Old Wesley RFC would like to extend its sincere thanks to the Barbarians Rugby Charitable Trust for its support and commitment to inclusive rugby. The Trust’s contribution will have a lasting impact, helping players access opportunities that might otherwise be beyond reach and enabling the continued growth of this inspiring programme. Our Vision Impaired Rugby team has become an integral part of the club and embodies many of the values that define rugby: teamwork, resilience, inclusion and respect. We look forward to following their preparations and celebrating their journey to Japan later this year.
We wish the squad every success in their preparations and thank everyone involved in making Vision Impaired Rugby such a positive and growing part of Old Wesley RFC.
