Doug McCoy – RIP
As a mark of respect to Doug, who was a former High School pupil, the two teams in the Junior Schools match between High School and Newpark observed a minute’s silence and spelt out the word DOUG prior to their match in Donnybrook on Thursday. See photo below.
It is with great and profound sadness that I must inform the members of Old Wesley of the sudden and untimely passing yesterday of our former Club President and Captain, Doug McCoy.
Doug has been a stalwart of Old Wesley since the early 1970s as an active senior playing member culminating with him being Captain of the club in the 1980/81 season. When he retired from playing Doug performed many duties in the club which lead to him being Club President in 1999/2000 following in the footsteps of his father Bob, who was also a fine stalwart member of Old Wesley. After his presidency he continued his club involvement and was Director of Rugby for a number of years and was always willing to help and become involved on committees or within the day to day running of the club as an active volunteer.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Judy and his brother Gordon and all of the immediate family and I would like on behalf of all members of our club to offer our deepest condolences at this difficult time.
May he rest in peace
On behalf of Old Wesley RFC
Dave Pierce – Club President
