European Championships 2023

As the competitive club season came to an end, all eyes shifted to the European Championships – this years iteration was held in sunny Vichy, France.

Old Wesley were once again proud to have many members representing their country; a mix of veterans returning for consecutive campaigns and players earning their first international caps – Team Ireland can reflect on another strong showing, with the Men’s Open claiming silver medal and the Mixed Open finishing 4th, claiming an impressive victory against England in the process.

Men’s Open Representatives: Ben O’Connell, Cian Mollen, Conor Murphy, Flynn Leaver, James O’Donnell, Joe Ballance, John Ennis, Mark Phelan, Oliver Da Silva, Sam Bewley, Sean Ballance, Stephen Troy, Tighe Brennan

Mixed Open Representatives: Kate Ballance, Rebecca Phelan, Cianne Cunningham, Emily Pollard, Lianna Prizeman, Kyle Leaver, Conor Fitzpatrick

All of the above did themselves, their country and their club proud with their performances on the pitch, and we are fortunate as a club to be able to foster the international talent that we have. Along with this, congratulations are in order to Flynn Leaver, Kyle Leaver and Conor Fitzpatrick for receiving their first international caps while abroad – special mention as well to James O’Donnell and Sam Bewley for receiving their 50th international caps, an incredible milestone; and to Jamie Maher who co-managed the Men’s Open.
