What is GOAL Jersey Day?
Taking place the first week in October – Jersey Day is GOAL’s flagship annual fundraising campaign held across Ireland and throughout the world. GOAL Jersey Day sees tens of thousands of people coming together and wearing their favourite sports jerseys and seeking sponsorships and donations to support GOAL’s work with vulnerable communities.
Last year Old Wesley was the first Rugby Club to fully support this initiative by having every player in the club wear a Jersey of their own choosing, no matter what sport, county, club, country etc. We ask that each player, coach and member at training or at home simply take a picture of your team proudly wearing your own colours and send the donation link to ask for support for this very worthy cause.
- Senior Rugby 8th
- Junior Rugby & Vets 9th / 16th October
- Minis and Youths – 13th October
How much does it raise?
It has been running for over 35 years, this great event is designed to help raise funds and much needed awareness of the role that GOAL plays in its lifesaving work across the world. In fact, this campaignhas raised €5 million to support work in 13 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Ukraine.
What Old Wesley is doing
The club is donating €250 to help kick start the initiative and we really want to see if we can hit our target of €1,000 raised and become the 1st club in the country to have all its teams support GOAL in some way. Donate link: Old Wesley RFC • GOAL Jersey Day 2024
What should Team Coach or Managers do?
We would ask each Team Coach or Manager to arrange with their players this week to have a photo taken and post them on social media with the #WesGOALJerseyDay and tag @GOALGlobal and @oldwesleyrfc we can compile these for our social media campaign. Even if you are not a player you can still take part with your family and snap a pic of you in your favourite jersey. Donate link: Old Wesley RFC • GOAL Jersey Day 2024
