It was a Grand Slam weekend for Old Wesley with all five teams in action recording wins in their respective leagues. In particular congratulations to both of our Under 20 sides as they eventually got their league campaigns going.
The 3rds started the ball rolling when they travelled to Malahide on Thursday and came away with a comfortable 24-0 win. Then on Saturday the 4ths beat the bank when they recorded a 27-17 win over AIB; indeed the win should have been by a greater margin as they missed out on a number of second half opportunities. Then on Sunday there were three matches. The 2nds took on NUIM Barnhall and looked to be in for a difficult day as they trailed 3-6 at half time. However an early second half try by Richie Jermyn gave them the lead. This was followed by a try by Wesley Deverell. Despite a late try by the Kildare men Old Wesley held out for a 21-13 victory.
The Under 20 Premiership team, who have had a rough season so far facing academy and semi professional players, eventually struck a bit of luck and got there first league win against NUIM Barnhall by 23-17. The Pennant side also got their first win when they beat Coolmine 22-18
All in all a very successful weekend for Old Wesley
