Hazel Shiel – deceased

Hazel Shiel – deceased

Old Wesley has learned with sadness of the death of Hazel Shiel at the great age of 98.  Hazel, who would be well known by our older members, and her late husband and Past President of Old Wesley, Willie, were an institution in the club when many of us were young players. Hazel worked for many years on the ladies committee at a time when wives and girlfriends of members looked after the catering needs of the club, providing meals after matches and at social events.

We extend our sympathies to her daughters Cecily (Pratt) and Sylvia, and the rest of her family at this time.  See newspaper announcement below.

SHIEL, (née Sholdice) – April 3, 2019, in her 99th year. Predeceased by her much loved husband Bill, her dear son Alan and son-in-law Ian Turner. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her: her daughters Cecily (Pratt), Sylvia (Turner), daughter-in-law Helen, son-in-law Iain, god-daughter Stephanie, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. Hazel donated her body to the Medical School, Trinity College Dublin, for the advancement of medical knowledge. A memorial service for her will be held in Zion Parish Church, Rathgar on Friday April 12 at 3pm. No flowers please. Donations, if desired, to Christian Aid. A special thanks to the staff of St. Mary’s Home, Pembroke Park, for their exceptional and loving care of Hazel. ‘Well done, good and faithful servant’
