After a lot of planning junior training is back and has been running for the last number of weeks in preparation for coming season. The club’s covid safety plan is in place at training so it can take place safely.
Numbers have been steadily growing over the last few weeks and all teams look forward to their cup campaigns which kick the season off a little earlier than usual. The last junior game played was on the 8th of March 2020 the branch are running last season’s cups at the start of this season which helps create interest and give a good reason to get back training earlier.
Andrew McCrann joins the 3rds coaching team Andrew has been a regular member of the senior squad over the last number of seasons but injury has forced him into early retirement. Alan Mo Johnston joins the management team Mo played junior rugby and after a break to concentrate on his career he returns to help out and we welcome both aboard. The 3rds kick off their season in the O’Connell cup on the 4th of September and will play either Clontarf 3rds or Bective 2nds.
The 4ths welcome Eoghan Copeland to their management team; Eoghan had recently been a member of the 20s but due to injury has been forced to retire early from the game. It’s great to see a young player get involved in management at junior level and hopefully will enjoy the experience. The 4ths kick off their season against Old Belvedere 3rds in the Moran cup on Friday the 3rd of September.
The 5ths management team remain the same although it is rumoured that Tom O’Brien may offer his services in a player-coaching consultancy roll. Even the clubs own TD has been seen getting in some preseason. The 5ths kick their season off against Wanderers 3rds in the Winters cup on Saturday the 4th of Sept.
This Saturday sees our 4ths & 5ths play Terenure in a training match which will be the first junior game in nearly 18 months no doubt there will be sore bodies come Sunday.
