Leinster Senior League Cup – UCD 57 – Old Wesley 26
Playing against a side that had beaten Lansdowne and inflicted heavy defeats on Old Belvedere and Blackrock was never going to be easy. And so it was as Old Wesley suffered a defeat to UCD in the last round of the Leinster Senior League Cup. College, which featured a number of semi professional and academy players were out of the blocks early and had clocked up five tries in the opening quarter before Old Wesley responded with three penalty goals. To their credit Wesley never gave up and indeed managed to cross for three tries in the second half through Steven Harvey, Richie Jermyn and Barry McLaughlin.
A week before the opening match of the All Ireland League Old Wesley should not be disheartened with this result against a team that could well challenge for the Division 1a title. The opening match against Old Crescent will be on a considerably more level playing field.
Old Wesley scorers:
Steven Harvey, Richie Jermyn, Barry McLaughlin, try each
Barry McLaughlin, 1 con, 3 pens
