Old Wesley Member to Carry Olympic Torch

Old Wesley member to carry Olympic Torch

Some of our older members will remember Derek Williams who played and coached in Old Wesley in the 1970s. After returning to his native Wales Derek coached rugby before taking up running as a competitor and later as a coach, manager and selector.  In 2011 he was awarded the ‘Award of Honour’ which is the highest non competitive award in Welsh Athletics. Now a spritely 74, Derek has kept up his membership of Old Wesley and lives in Dinas Powys. He also spends part of the year in Blessington.

On this Friday 25th May Derek will carry the Olympic Torch in Cardiff.

Congratulations Derek on this great honour.
