Four years ago, we started our Give It a Try programme, working with the IRFU in developing our girls’ membership and giving girls an opportunity to play rugby.
On Saturday 25th April four years of hard work paid off as our eight Under 16 girls came home, as part of the U16 DLM squad, Leinster Division 3 Champions.
Isabella, Faith, Izzy, Cate, Georgie, Sasha all were in the match day squad with Rebecca and Grace travelling as reserves. They all played their role with precision and accuracy and 100% commitment.
The squad won through 45-7 with some excellent line breaks and carries from Cate, Faith and Georgie to fantastic footwork and power from Isabella, Sasha and Izzy, it was great to see how far the girls have come. We are all very proud of you all, flying the flag for girls in Old Wesley.
A massive thank you to the DLM coaches for their support. We reached out to ask for help in reaching our long-term goal of a Senior Women’s team, and they helped Old Wesley take another step towards this goal.
Our Give It A Try programme starts again on Wednesday 6th May and we are hoping that any members daughters and of course their friends, will sign up and become the next Leinster Champions.
