Leinster Senior League Old Wesley 19 UCD 17
Our second Leinster Senior League fixture saw a heavily rotated team take to the field in a balmy UCD Bowel. The team captained by JJ O’Dea for the first time saw six players make their senior debuts for the club. Paddy McKenzie was to the fore and was instrumental in setting up two tries in the first 20 minutes of the match. Alastair Hoban touched down for the first and Shane Brennan finished powerfully for number two. Josh Miller added one conversion to give us a 12 nil lead. Soon after Old Wesley had a third try with the captain finishing off some good phase play. Miller again added the conversion.
UCD began to build pressure coming up to half time and were rewarded with a try and penalty to leave Old Wesley with a 19-10 halftime lead. A controversial start to the 2nd half saw UCD score a try despite the touch judge raising his flag for foul play early in the build up. The game then turned into a scrappy affair with both sides making a number of handling errors. In the end Old Wesley deservedly held on with a dogged and determined defensive effort.
