Old Wesley Touch Magic Round 2023

Old Wesley Touch Magic Round 2023

As the sun sets on the Old Wesley Touch 22/23 competitive season, our yearly Magic Round took center-stage as we looked to end the season on a high!

Down in Australia, the NRL Magic Round is a weekend where all teams play in the same venue, and if those folks know anything, it’s how to enjoy themselves playing sport!

On the 15th July, 12 teams and over 80 players took to the field across both Men’s and Women’s divisions, looking to claim top prize in what proved to be tricky conditions as the rain began to make its presence felt over the course of the day – however, it did little to deter spirits as Donnybrook played host to some fast-paced touch on the field, and great merriment off it.

The Men’s division was split into two groups of 4 where the teams battled it out to progress to the knockout stages whereas in the Women’s division, the four teams took part in a round robin to decide who would reign as champions…

As the group games came to a close, the day was punctuated by the fresh addition of the State of Origin Mixed Open match which consisted of select players donning the traditional colors of Queensland and New South Wales in what proved to be a very exciting match with New South Wales dominating for the most part, eventually claiming the win.

With the close of the Origin match, finals footy resumed and the knockout stages bore witness to some electric on-field play as the Rabbitohs claimed eventual victory in the Men’s division while the Storm ran home champions in the Women’s division, ending what proved to be an epic day of touch for all involved! We are already looking forward to next year!
