AIL 1B – Dublin University 27 – Old Wesley 7
Old Wesley travelled to Dublin city centre hoping to extend their winning run of eight AIL matches, but they were met by a Dublin University side with an efficient back line and a sturdy defence.
Old Wesley enjoyed the territorial advantage in the early stage but could not convert the advantage into points. And it was Trinity who opened the scoring with a converted try after 20 minutes. They then kicked two penalty goals to extend their lead to 13 nil at half time.
Ten minutes into the second half Jules Fenelon found a gap before passing to Paudi Farrell. The speedy winger sprinted over 40 metres to score in the corner. Charlie Hempenstall converted to make it a 7-point game. Again Wesley led the territory and possession stakes but could not cross the line. Then, on a rare visit to the Wesley 22, Trinity crossed for a second converted try. Ten minutes later they crossed again leaving Old Wesley an impossible mountain to climb.
Old Wesley now have 3 weeks to regroup before a home encounter with Garryowen.
