Under 10 Girls Half Time Minis Game

Under 10 Girls Half Time Minis Game

On Saturday for the first time ever Old Wesley will host a half time Minis match against Old Belvedere RFC.  Both clubs Under 10 Girls squads will take to the field Leinster style with a game of rugby in the middle of the pitch.

After a successful mini tour of South Dublin for three consecutive weeks, our girls are ready to make history and are keen to show off their skills in front of what is sure to be a big crowd.  They have been training twice a week for the past four weeks to be ready for the biggest game of their life’s as they step onto the Donnybrook pitch, through a guard of honour from De La Wes Under 14 Girls.

The girls have been steadily growing each season for the past three years.  From having one squad of eight girls three years ago, we have now grown to having one Leinster league squad and an Under 10 squad, being coached by Chris and Maya, with other girls playing in the Under 8 and Under 12 age groups.  We also have members playing with the Leinster Metro squads.  At the weekends, the Mini girls train with their mixed squads while on a Wednesday evening the Under 10’s warm up with the Under 14’s and then train separately at Ballycorus.  I huge thank you to our Ladies Touch squad, Daragh Coyle and Emily McKeown for their support in coaching the Under 14’s as they continue their league campaign with an away match on Saturday against Barnhall (10.30am start).

These are exciting times for the development of Girls rugby in OWRFC and if you know anyone that wishes to get involved please email girlsrugby@oldwesley.ie.

In advance of Saturday thank you for your support and ongoing encouragement.
